YMCA Turkey Run Race recap:
15 hearty racers braved the chill and the wind in 3 separate categories, and took to the trails in Pokomoke for the first race of the Fall/Winter season. The signal was given aside the picnic pavilion, and the race was underway shorty after 1pm with a race time temp of 33 degrees and a NW wind of 25mph. Things started out quietly as the racers jockeyed for position throughout the open section of asphalt leading into the Dash Z trail. Dave McCloy came into view first over the top of the hill, and made his way past the finish line in just a hair over 5 minutes with several racers looming close behind. McCloy would continue his excellent start into the first lap and lead the whole way, clocking a first lap time of 21:06.71 with Chris Davis following in the slipstream. Davis would go into the second lap strong, and pass McCloy going into the Turtle Ponds trail, as Dave suffered an unfortunate loss of control. Clearly seizing his opportunity, Davis blazed his way down the rest of the finely groomed trails at the YMCA to record a course record 20:47.62 on his second lap, opening up a sizable gap on the rest of the expert field. Also of note, racer Brian Jack had an unfortunate rear puncture as he was completing his 2nd lap, and withdrew from the race just as thing were heating up. Better luck next month, Brian! As the expert riders came through for their third lap, the Beginner and Intermediate riders were completing their second and final lap. Congrats to Darrin Fox for taking the Beginner class, and Caleb Oliver for claiming the intermediate/ single speed class. Great race guys!
As the clock turned over an hour, all eyes were on the hill to see the “Elite Men” bring it home. It was Davis to come across 1st with a sizable lead, with McCloy taking a respectable, and hard fought 2nd.
Gotta give a HUGE Thanks to ALL of the volunteers who braved the cold weather to clear trails, register racers, direct traffic and cheer!!
Overall winner Chris Davis with a time of 1:08:05.76
First runner up Dave McCloy with a time of 1:09:39.21

Congratulations to all!
